Wiggles brighten brave Billy's day

IT is the simple things in life that make Billy Russell and his parents smile.

Like dancing to the Wiggles in the Mooloolaba family’s lounge room.

Born with Charge syndrome, each day is a battle against the odds for the brave two-year-old.

He has serious respiratory complications, is “peg fed” through a button in his stomach, has only one working kidney and requires constant eye drops.

Due to the financial stress of the ongoing medical costs, the single-income family rarely enjoy any play time outside the house.

After reading about Billy’s plight in the Daily, the Wiggles management have offered a family pass to their concert on the Sunshine Coast on October 22 and 23 at Stockland Park.

“It is a lovely gesture,” Billy’s dad Dean said.

“We have never seen them live, it is really exciting news.

“We would also like to thank Disability Support Services Queensland for all their help over the years.

“They provide 20 hours of care a week and have given us a special cot. Every bit of help makes life easier.”

A spokeswoman for the Wiggles said the children’s entertainment group were touched by Billy’s story.

“All too often we hear of children who, despite the health hurdles placed before them, show extraordinary courage and resilience,” she said.
