Votes needed to help #ProjectSk8Park win

TEENAGERS Ethan Laval and Flynn Bushell were the brains behind Sugar Bowl Mackay, a $2.2 million, state-of-the-art skate facility that has a three-metre competition bowl, intermediate bowl and a street run almost 80m long.

The Whitsunday Anglican School Year 10 students said they were proud to be nominated for the 2019 Seven News Young Achiever Awards.

The award was designed to acknowledge, encourage and promote achievements of all young people in Queensland.

To help them win, the boys need the Mackay community to vote for them as finalists in the the Peoples Choice Awards.

Flynn and Ethan's #ProjectSk8Park aim has been to improve facilities offered to youth of the North Beaches and Mackay.

Ethan said to win would show young people are able to achieve a goal.

He said the pair had achieved their goal by doing their research, talking and petitioning.

"It's great to be recognised," Flynn added.

"It's really about the community and what they need."

The boys are helping design a second park in Camilleri St, Eimeo.

Flynn and Ethan said the focus of the park would be bike riders with a pump track included in the concept.

Ethan's mother, Tammy Laval, nominated the boys.

"Given both their age and the dollar amount that they were able to generate for the benefit of our community, I felt they needed the recognition for their efforts and to inspire other youth in our region to achieve similar goals," Mrs Laval said
