Veterinarian takes a trip back through time
THE Bright family from Karoola Park thought they were in the 19th century when a horse and carriage appeared on their property to attend to their cattle.
To their surprise it was local veterinarian Sandi Jephcott being pulled along by her 16-year-old horse Morticia.
The Brights needed 30 heifers pregnancy tested on a Sunday and when Dr Jephcott got the call up she thought she may as well make use of the open road.
"Morticia has been in form after the Cobb & Co ride and because it was on the Sunday I thought 'why not?',” she said.
"We set off at 10.30am and arrived just after lunch, quicker than I expected. And then straight into business.”
Dr Jephcott operates out of West Berwick, a property near Surat on Maranoa road, specialising in bull testing after pregnancy testing more than one million head of cattle.
Dr Jephcott said it may have taken longer than the usual trip but she would do it again.
"Morticia is in the paddock,” she said.
"When I harness her up she looks at me and says 'at my age I really shouldn't be doing this' but she's good and trots along.”
