Roaring good fun for kids as dinosaurs take over MECC
A PREHISTORIC vibe has come over the Mackay Entertainment and Convention Centre ahead of a day designed especially for children.
The new look is thanks to the artistic talents of a group of Mackay State High School students.
They teamed up with centre staff to produce art pieces centred around upcoming show, Dinosaur Time Machine, as part of Kids' Day at the MECC.
Teacher Anita Pritchard was excited to begin work straight away when she was first presented with the community engagement opportunity.
"We had a number of Grade 7s and 12s who were happy to jump on board, they put in a lot of hard work and the result speaks for itself, it looks amazing,” Ms Pritchard said.
On Saturday, April 13, the MECC will open its doors for its first Kids' Day - a day filled with performances, workshops, tours and cinema experiences.
Cr Justin Englert said the team at the MECC had gone all out to produce a day of fun guaranteed to excite, enthral and entertain school holiday crowds.
The aim is to build a love of the theatre in young audiences by offering new, exciting and fun events.
"Kids' Day at the MECC is not just one show, it's hours of fun, laugher and adventure,” Cr Englert said.
"This event is designed as a festival for kids that is the perfect introduction to the performing arts - and is a first of its kind for the MECC.”
The day is part of the Young People's Entertainment Season, sponsored by Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal.
The public is encouraged to purchase tickets and register for the workshops now to avoid disappointment on the day.
Kids' Day at the MECC has two sessions - session one from 9am to 1pm, and session two from 2pm to 6pm. Admission costs $20, with family passes available for $68 (two adults two children).
