Road trip brings out ‘Blockheads'
FANS of Channel 9's The Block received a treat last week when real-life partners Dan and Dani appeared at Coolum's Mitre 10.
The popular couple took part in games, gave away prizes and patiently signed autographs and chatted with dozens of fans, young and old.
The appearance was part of a promotional Mighty Aussie Road Trip, in conjunction with major sponsor Mitre 10, which had the road show travel all the way down the Coast from Cairns.
Dan, 28, and Dani, 26, from Melbourne first met in the back of a stretch Hummer.
"We were celebrating a mutual friend's birthday in London and Dan was brought along as a potential date for the birthday girl," Dani said. "Needless to say I got in first."
Dan is a carpenter by trade and Dani is unemployed since she recently resigned from her job to go into, surprise, surprise, the renovation business with Dan.
They recently purchased their own apartment in Richmond, just around the corner from the last series of The Block.
"We had planned to apply for the last series but Dan went and broke his wrist," Dani said. "We were heartbroken when we saw the couples renovating around The Block from our house, so this year we were even more determined to get in."
Dani said they were making the most of their 15 minutes of fame while it lasted.
"We're loving it," she said.
"We're getting to meet the most amazing people. Everyone's just so friendly and have really positive things to say when we meet them."
Filming for the show has been completed, but the couple are not contemplating media careers.
"I think we'll miss all the activity and all the people around us and everyone wanting to have a chat about it all. We'll miss that side of it definitely.
"I don't think I'm destined for a career under the spotlight."
But the question they get asked the most is about THAT question.
"No he hasn't proposed yet," Dani said. "When it does happen it will happen in its own time, away from the cameras."
