Payload pal delivers results
A PROSPECT of a 40-tonne payload from the new MAN tipper on display at the Brisbane Truck Show proved a massive hit, said Sergio Carboni, national sales manager for Penske Commercial Vehicles.
The latest addition to the MAN stable is about to be rolled out for test driving at dealers around the country after undergoing extensive field tests in Australia.
"We've had three running around with a large infrastr- ucture company for the last 12 months and they've been getting phenomenal results," Mr Carboni told Big Rigs.
"They've been consistently getting over a 40t payload. We're going to be running some demos, and this will be one of them.
"Currently, there are MAN TGS tipper spec demo units in far north Queensland and Melbourne/Sydney with more follow."
He said the first tipper chassis have started to arrive and are currently going through the pre-delivery process at Penske Commercial Vehicles in Wacol, QLD, with availability to the dealer network expected to be later this month.
Mr Carboni said the key to the improved productivity from the 540hp, 12.4 L E5 engine is the low tare weight of the chassis, at just 8290kg.
"Then when you design a good body and a good trailer you're going to be at a 40t plus payload which we believe is class leading," he said.
"So, it puts us right in the game with the typical companies who have been successful in the tipper applications."
Apart from the payload gains, Mr Carboni points to the MAN's class-leading manoeuvrability benefits, outstanding fuel efficiency, along with low whole of life costs, maximum safety and comfort, and proven reliability.
"So we think this is going to be a true winner for us going forward, and we're really excited about what the show's brought to us."
"This has really helped emphasis the brand awareness of MAN and the energy that Penske is putting behind this European brand.
"It's highly successful in Eruope and it's about translating that success in Europe into Australia."
In addition to the TGS 540hp tipper spec unit, MAN Truck & Bus also had a TGX D38 580hp and a TGX D38 640hp prime mover at the show.
