Letter to the Editor - Saturday, May 2: A cruel sentence
THE Indonesian President didn't have the conviction to back down and save the lives of those two beautiful men and the others who joined them.
People who know me know that I despise drugs and drug dealers.
These two men were convicted of smuggling drugs and yes those drugs would have been sold to others who may even die from taking them.
Yes Indonesia has the death penalty as one of their punishments for drug smuggling even if we don't agree with the death penalty.
But these two men were sentenced to death 10 long years ago.
If Indonesia is going to stand by their death penalty, then why make these two men and others wait 10 long years?
It's because of allowing the men and their families 10 years of living, suffering, repenting, rehabilitating that this act of killing is just so wrong. It stands for nothing because they left it too long.
