Fishers or fishermen? The question of political correctness

POLITICAL correctness got a serving in Wednesday's council meeting, with Cr Barry Green objecting to the the gender-neutral term "fishers".

Cr Green was promoting the upcoming Bass Nation fishing competition at Boondooma Dam.

"I refuse to say 'fishers'. They are fishermen. Whether they are men or women, they are fishermen," Cr Green said.

Tonic Lake Boondooma Battle is on June 19 to 21 with fishers and fishermen from all over Australia.
