Firefighters rely on detailed information in an emergency

IPSWICH'S rural fire brigades are urging residents to make sure they are familiar with their local area in case they have to report a bush fire.

Rural Fire Service regional manager Corey Bock said it was vital that residents had as much information as possible regarding an incident before calling Triple Zero.

"Ensure you know where the fire is located, including a street number, name, nearest cross street and locality," Mr Bock said.

"In rural areas it is important to know your rural road number (located on a fluorescent picket) and correct road name which will assist emergency services to know how far your property is from the nearest major intersection along that road.
