Finals battle for longboard title
THE second day of the 2013 Winter Longboard Classic at Alexandra Headland has wrapped up as competitors get ready for today's finals.
Participants took to the water in the choppy 0.75m swell with Alex Headland providing some much needed protection against the strong south-easterly winds.
Competition at the Yaroomba Classic was called off yesterday due to poor conditions with surfers to compete in the finals today.
Meanwhile, Coast surfers Mitch Coleborn and Julian Wilson failed to hit the water yesterday following another competition lay day of the Volcom Fiji Pro due to poor swell.
ASP International Head Judge Rich Porta said competition could recommence as early as today.
Coleborn will face 11-time world champion Kelly Slater in his round three heat with Wilson taking on American Kolohe Andino.
Junior Coast Surfers Kai Hing (Wurtulla), Eli Steel (Moffat Beach) and Isabella Nichols (Coolum) got their Dakine ISA World Junior Surfing Championship campaigns underway overnight in Nicaragua.
