Activist misses great opportunity at Games' opening ceremony

PERHAPS Aboriginal activist Wayne Wharton may eventually achieve his wish for the Government to establish a Truth Commission.

There is no one still alive to bear witness from the days of settlement in this country - one wonders what truth he is seeking.

For years Aboriginal communities have been handed millions of dollars which have often been considered, by their own people, as "sit down money".

If he had been able to witness the Commonwealth Games' opening ceremony he would have had to agree it was more than "a nod" to our indigenous culture; it was three quarters of the content.

Instead of wasting taxpayers' money and police time protesting, he and his mob would have been better off taking in a welcome to country - that is all of our country Australia, from the performers through to the speech-makers on Wednesday evening.

Rather than experience this truth, this individual appears to want to wallow in much of the past which is not always able to be authenticated.

How much more than "sorry" can be uttered and enacted?
